Richard R. Trunnell's Legislative Update

It has been a busy Legislative Session for Mr. Trunnell, who is the Legislative Co-Chair of the Maryland State Bar Associations Family and Juvenile Counsel. Mr. Trunnell has testified on behalf of the Juvenile jurisdiction change which would result in better outcomes for youth offenders. Mr. Trunnell has also testified against a bill that would undermine the best interest of children in custody actions. Mr. Trunnell is one of the most appeared best interest attorneys in Anne Arundel County and, as such, he has also testified on legislation that would change when best interest attorneys could bring actions as a result of abuse by the parents or guardians of the children. Finally, as a proud owner of two dogs, Mr. Trunnell has testified on behalf of a bill by Delegate Michael Malone which would allow judges to grant custody of pets to one party in divorce actions. While this does not seem to be the most serious of bills, Mr. Trunnell has had a number of cases where one parent’s actions, in taking a pet, has negatively affected the minor children of the parties. Mr. Trunnell believes that the court awarding both temporary and permanent custody of a pet will help children in a very difficult time in their lives as they have to do in dealing with their parents’ separation and divorce.
